About this policy

This page explains how the current features on BookAud use information. For a privacy question or a request about information you have sent us, email [email protected].

Listening without an account

You can browse the catalogue, read the guides and listen to books without a BookAud account.

Your saved listening position

The player has an optional “Remember my place on this device” setting. When you select it, the player stores the playlist, track number, playback position, speed and save time in your browser’s local storage. It uses these details to offer “Continue listening” on that device. This saved position is not an account and does not move between devices.

The player recognises saved positions from the previous 90 days. This does not automatically erase older browser data. To delete a saved position, clear the “Remember my place on this device” checkbox for that book. To delete all positions, clear BookAud’s site data in your browser settings. The player does not send this saved-position record to our server.

Site use and listening statistics

BookAud uses Google Analytics, connected through Site Kit, to understand visits and use of the site. The player can send events when listening starts, when five minutes of playback have passed, and when a track ends. These player events include the playlist identifier and track number. They do not include your name, email address or the locally saved listening-position record.

When Google services load, your browser sends information to Google, such as the page address and technical connection information. Google Analytics can use cookies and similar identifiers. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Google also offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Comments

Some pages allow comments. The form asks for your comment, name and email address, and offers an optional website field. WordPress also records an IP address and browser information with a comment to support moderation. Published comments display the name and text you submit, and may show your website link. The form does not publish your email address.

You can choose to save your name, email and website in browser cookies for a later comment. Leave that box clear if you do not want to save them. Profile images can load from Gravatar; its handling of information is described in Automattic’s privacy policy.

Account and browser cookies

WordPress uses cookies for signed-in accounts and interface settings. Its login page also tests whether the browser accepts cookies. These account features are separate from listening to books. You can remove or block cookies in your browser settings, but doing so can affect sign-in and saved preferences. See WordPress’s explanation of cookies.

Audio and other external services

Many audio files are supplied directly by Internet Archive. When your browser requests one of these files, it connects to that provider. The provider receives the information needed to handle the request, including your IP address. Its own practices apply to that connection. See Internet Archive’s terms and privacy information.

Links to LibriVox, Project Gutenberg and other sources open services outside BookAud. Those services have their own policies. Our web server and services used to deliver the site also receive technical requests when you open pages and files.

Messages and requests

If you email us, we receive your email address and the message and files you send. These are used to handle your question or correction. Please do not include passwords or other sensitive information.

You can ask about, correct or request removal of information you supplied through comments, an account or email. Contact [email protected] and identify the relevant comment, account or message. Do not send identity documents unless they are requested for a specific reason.
