What are you doing? — English audio story and listening guide

The text connects a question with a series of actions. Each picture gives a different answer. The final scenes connect a call with a response.

This page gives a complete short-story recording and a separate BookAud guide. The recording is not a long novel. You can return to the source text at any time.

Audio and source text

Language: English. Duration: 0:25. Recording: Darshan Soni.

The recording preserves the original story. The guide below does not replace its text.

Open the source text and pictures

Listen with a purpose

  1. Listen to the full story one time.
  2. Read the source text.
  3. Listen to the story again.
  4. Find the picture for each action.
  5. Write one sentence about the result.

For the first pass, keep the source text closed. For the second pass, compare the words with the pictures. If a word is unclear, return to that sentence. You can stop and continue the recording with the audio controls.

Two questions

  1. Which action makes a sound with the hands?
  2. Which action receives a spoken message?
Show the answers
  1. The hands clap.
  2. The person listens.

Discuss the story

Use the source wording for the language exercise. BookAud does not change the grammar of the original recording.

Select one answer above. Find the scene that supports it. Explain how that scene differs from the start of the story. Use the text as evidence. If the text does not answer a question, keep that uncertainty in your discussion.
